We believe that participation in sport can play a key role in helping young athletes find their path in life. We also think it’s really important to remove any financial barriers for families and we work with a number of organizations to do this. Because our resources are limited and we have more requests than we can fund each year, we ask families to prioritize applying to the first 3 organizations listed below. Our experience has been that families who demonstrate need will very often get funding even when their income falls outside of the normal limits.

Families needing support beyond what these organizations can provide are encouraged to apply to the Split Second Kidsplay fund at the bottom of this page.

KidSport

The KidSport concept was launched in 1993 by board and staff members at Sport BC as a way to help address the challenges faced by many families when registering their children in organized sport. From a modest start in that first year, issuing $35,000 in grants, KidSport has grown exponentially across the country and has become a truly national entity with 11 provincial/territorial chapters and over 180 community based chapters.

Through Split Second’s membership with Basketball BC, our players are eligible to receive reimbursement for tuition, if they meet KidSport funding criteria.

Split Second KidsPlay

With help from the not-for-profit Vancouver Basketball Training Association, Split Second Basketball has tackled the challenge of providing financial assistance by accepting (tax deductible) donations as well as by committing our own funds to subsidize players’ tuition. Over the last decade, this dual-pronged approach has helped hundreds of athletes play basketball, who would otherwise been restricted by financial barriers.

If you need assistance to register for one of our programs, please click the link below.

I can not say enough great things about Split Second and their coaches. Our girls have taken lessons consistently for the last several years and have continued to gain skill and confidence in the sport. The coaches are highly skilled and their passion for the sport and teaching is clearly evident. Highly recommended!
