The Power of Passion and Persistence

Having long term success is not always about talent. Character and Intangibles such as commitment, resiliency, hard work, cooperation and joy make up a large part of someone’s long term success.

In this 6 minute video, Angela Duckworth who is a Professor of Psychology at University of Pennsylvania, speaks about a key factor in achieving long term success: Grit which she defines as having passion and perseverance over the long term.

Passion and perseverance are invaluable Characteristics of Success that can be honed through athletics to serve a greater purpose. When players begin to believe they can overcome challenges and obstacles, even if they are on the basketball court, then they start believing they can overcome all types of challenges that life brings.

At Split Second Basketball, we are an advocate of long term development, and building the habits for players to persevere to achieve a goal over the long term. We want players to build a mindset to get better every day. To fight through the ups and downs. To stay the course. To persist and stick with it, through challenges and adversity. This is the path that leads to success that we want to guide young athletes through.
