Snowball Classic 2025: A Weekend of Basketball, Competition, and Community

For the second year in a row, the Snowball Classic brought together young athletes, passionate coaches, and dedicated families for an unforgettable weekend of basketball. Held at the Richmond Oval on January 25th and 26th, 2025, this year’s tournament featured nine teams from eight different elementary schools across Vancouver and Richmond.

The two-day event saw intense competition, thrilling finishes, and a supportive community rallying behind these young players. As the tournament continues to grow, it’s clear that the future of elementary school basketball in Vancouver is brighter than ever.

A Tournament That Brings Out the Best

Each team played a total of four games—two on Saturday and two on Sunday—with the top teams battling in a championship round for a fifth and final game. The tournament structure allowed for maximum playing time, team development, and a chance for every player to gain valuable in-game experience.

From the first tip-off, teams displayed an impressive level of skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship. It was evident that these young athletes had been putting in the work, honing their fundamentals, and growing their love for the game.

An Atmosphere Like No Other

One of the standout features of the Snowball Classic is the unwavering support from the basketball community. Parents, siblings, grandparents, and friends packed the stands, creating an electric atmosphere that fueled the players on the court.

The Richmond Oval once again proved to be the perfect host, providing a world-class venue that elevated the experience for both players and spectators. With its high ceilings, spacious courts, and professional setup, the Oval gave these young athletes a big-stage experience—something they’ll remember for years to come.

Playoff Drama and Championship Excitement

As Sunday’s games progressed, the intensity only grew. The playoff bracket delivered some of the most exciting matchups of the weekend, with teams battling fiercely for a spot in the championship game.

Many of the games were closely contested, with some even pushing into overtime. Players left everything on the floor, showcasing their resilience, determination, and passion for the game. The championship match was a fitting finale, featuring high-level play, incredible teamwork, and a championship-worthy effort from both sides.

A Look Ahead: Growing the Snowball Classic

With two successful years in the books, the Snowball Classic is quickly becoming a premier event in Vancouver’s elementary school basketball scene. The enthusiasm from players, coaches, and families is a clear sign that there is demand for more opportunities like this.

Looking ahead, we hope to expand the tournament—welcoming more teams, creating more game-day experiences, and continuing to foster a love for basketball at the grassroots level.

A huge thank you to all the players, coaches, referees, volunteers, and families who made this event possible. Your passion and dedication are what make tournaments like this special.
