Get a Bit Better Everyday

“Everybody overestimates what you can do in a day, and underestimates what you can do in months.”

This is a quote by one of the best coaches in the NBA today, Erik Spoelstra of the Miami Heat while talking about the development of Tyler Herro during last year’s playoffs. There is no single moment when a player “makes a leap,” instead development is built over a long period of time.

The strong belief in daily improvement resulting in long term development is a major force behind the Split Second philosophy. We want players to get better every day and we believe that working hard each day compounds greatly when sustained over a long period of time. Players need to be resilient, continue to show up and do their best, even when they aren’t playing well, or not seeing improvements. Players who demonstrate this “stick withitness” will eventually be able to reach their peak, step by step.

Below is the post game interview of Erik Spoelstra speaking about Herro’s development, competitive humility, working hard through the ups and downs and his daily improvement that led him to have a great playoff performance.
