Post Secondary Pathway Info Session October 16th

Split Second is here to help you find your path through basketball. For many of us that means having fun playing a game we love and learning life lessons throughout high school. For others, that means navigating their path to play at the post secondary level.

This is a challenging process at the best of times and even more difficult in the aftermath of COVID with hundreds  of older players in the system getting extra university eligibility.

The process of finding a place to play post secondary basketball needs to be led by the player him/herself. It takes a lot of time, energy and focus that must come from a deep and burning desire to play at the next level. However, we have found that players often don’t understand the steps involved in this process or even what questions to ask, and therefore avoid even thinking about it and miss out on a window of opportunity.

We are hosting a Post Second Pathway Info Session on Sunday October 16th at 8:15pm at VTT  to help ensure that interested athletes have the background context they need to develop their own recruitment process. We will give players a chance to ask questions and cover the following information:

The good news is that the recruiting process doesn’t really begin until grade 11 or later for most Canadian basketball players. The vast majority of the players who attend Canadian post secondary schools don’t make commitments before the end of their grade 12 high school season. While this Info Session is primarily intended for players (and their parents) at the senior high school level, we are happy to have younger players attend if they want to learn about this process at an earlier age.

Here is the post secondary experience of the coaches who are involved in coaching our Cobra teams this season:

  1. Novell Thomas- played 4 years at Langara, SFU and coached at the University of Brandon for 9 seasons

  2. Kevin Pribilsky- played 5 years for SFU, TRU and was a lead assistant for TRU

  3. Eric D’Andrea- played 5 years at TRU and VIU

  4. Jordan M- played 4 years at Bellevue College and SFU

  5. Hidde Vos- played 4 years at Cal Fullerton and SFU

  6. Luka Lizdek- currently playing in his 4th year with the UBC Thunderbirds (previously with University of Ottawa)

  7. Tarik Scott- played at Grant MacEwan College and Brandon University

  8. Denise Busayong- played 5 years and coached at Langara

  9. Toni Li- played at Langara

  10. Eric Butler- played 5 years for the UBC Thunderbirds

We will have some of these coaches on hand to share their experiences and to  answer any questions you have. Every one of them has an understanding of the Post Secondary Pathway and the challenges that go along with it…AND they want to help you. Whether it’s a casual conversation after practice or a scheduled Zoom call with you and your parents,  please talk to them about the process in addition to coming to the Info Session on Sunday October 16th at 8:15pm at VTT.
