2023 Post Secondary Pathway Recap
On Monday, October 9th, we were delighted to see numerous Cobra families join us for an informative session at VTT. This session aimed to provide valuable insights into how our players can navigate the often challenging transition from high school to post-secondary basketball.
The Split Second coaching team has a ton of experience in making this transition, having personally journeyed through it as players and now guiding our U18s as coaches. During the session, our coaches addressed three fundamental questions:
What Post Secondary Options Are Available To Me?
Our session commenced with an overview of the various post-secondary options available to players. These include Prep School, CJBL, JUCO, CCAA, NCAA, and USPORT. We highlighted the major distinctions between these choices and discussed which options suit different individuals best.
What Are Coaches Seeking When Recruiting Players?
Coach Raoul Korner, with his successful professional coaching career, has honed a deep understanding of basketball and player recruitment. He has spent countless hours evaluating players and selecting the right talents to ensure his team's success. Raoul shared invaluable insights into what he, and indeed all reputable coaches, look for in players. This information equips our Cobras with the knowledge they need to develop the essential habits and catch the attention of post-secondary coaches in a highly competitive recruiting environment.
How Do I Develop My Own Personalized Recruiting Plan?
The final segment of our presentation delved into the practical details of crafting your unique recruiting plan. How to choose the right school, initiate contact, structure communication, assemble a compelling video, and manage follow-ups were all covered. While the initiative must come from the players themselves, our SSB team stands ready to offer guidance and support. It's worth noting that last year, over half of our graduating Cobras successfully found their ideal post-secondary destination, studying and playing basketball at Usport and CCAA schools. With determination, a dash of luck, and unwavering persistence, many more Cobras can achieve similar success in the future. We are here to support you every step of the way.
