Our younger players showed us, in our Full Court World League Finals, that teamwork and sharing the ball are key in basketball.
Here are some highlights of today’s finals and some words of or Coach Joey Vickery:
In the finals of the World League, the undefeated Australians vs 3rd Ranked Argentina. Argentina was short handed with some players missing, but put up a good fight. But Australia was too tough once again. The most consistent team in the league, playing unselfish basketball and relentless on defence and playing that way for the whole game, gave Australia the World League Title winning 53-36! A great final with both teams giving their all!
In the third place game, 2nd Ranked Germany beat 4th Ranked France 64-35. Germany’s offence was just too tough to stop getting many baskets on the fast break!
There were many topics and game scenarios introduced to these young players in the World Basketball League and it was amazing to see how they were able to implement these skills into their games every week. It’s just a matter of time until they make it a HABIT!
Remember, any time you finish a game or practice, ask yourself: What did I do well? (and keep doing it), what could I do better? (and work at it), and was I a good team-mate? (did I say “good pass”, “nice try”, “way to get back on D”) I (Joey) say this and more constantly to my team-mates in practices and games and it raises the level and confidence a great deal within the team!
