The Split Second COBRA program is Vancouver’s premier basketball training environment. Our full-time coaches have all played at the university and/or professional level and follow a detailed basketball development curriculum. Each training session is thoroughly planned to make sure players build great habits and learn to play the RIGHT way.

Our High School COBRA program has 2 distinct seasons with separate evaluations/tryouts:

  • Fall COBRA Academy
  • Spring COBRA Teams

Both seasons involve similar weekly training commitments, however the Spring season has greater focus on team play (with 5+ tournaments/team) while the Fall focuses on helping athletes take their game to the next level for the upcoming high school basketball season.

The spring season runs from April to early summer with registration and try-outs in March.

For more information contact kevin@splitsecondbasketball.com for the boys and adriano@splitsecondbasketball.com for the girls Cobra teams.

FAQ’s

ARE PLAYERS AUTOMATICALLY SIGNED UP FOR THE SPLIT SECOND NBA LEAGUES?

No. Although we encourage COBRAs to play in our NBA Leagues, we did not make it mandatory by including it in our registration. Several players in the COBRA program are coming from far away and can not commit to another night/week in Vancouver. However, the NBA Leagues do provide players a chance to play games each week and we encourage all COBRAS to join.

WHO DO WE COMPETE AGAINST?

The Cobras will compete against other strong players in every practice. We will also schedule games/scrimmages against other clubs. We will enter tournaments in the US and locally as indicated in the table above.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Training and gear fees will be in the range of a few hundred dollars per month.  Tournament costs will be split between players and billed separately. If you require tournament cost estimates or precise billing details before try-outs, please contact Lesley@splitsecondbasketball.com

WHAT IS THE “OPEN-GYM” TRAINING COMPONENT?

Access to a Cobra Open Gym is a critical part of development because it gives players the opportunity to get lots of time working on their individual skills, plus freedom to experiment playing in pick-up games. Our Open Gym times will be limited to these serious players, and we expect it to be an important component of our Cobra program.

CAN I PLAY MULTIPLE SPORTS WHILE BEING IN THE PROGRAM?

Yes, in fact we encourage multi sport athletes and are okay with them missing a Cobras session to accommodate other important sporting events as long as they make every effort to attend our sessions when possible.

CAN I PLAY ON ANOTHER BASKETBALL TEAM?

We encourage kids to play on their school team. Our ultimate goal is to make them strong, confident players on their elementary, high school, university, provincial and national teams.

Because we give players ALL the training, conditioning, skill development and games they need, athletes should not play with any other basketball clubs. Our experience has been that this can often lead to the development of bad habits, conflicted loyalty and put young men and women in a difficult situation.
